Studio Membership is year-round, including July and August. Please do not 'take off' in the summer as it makes it difficult to retain experienced and excellent teachers. We take two breaks in the summer (late June, late August) for vacations and one break at the winter holidays and a break at Easter. The membership fee remains the same every month, year round, even if there are short months, 5 lessons in a month or holidays. We operate on a flat-rate system wherein the total number of lessons per year are added up and divided by 12 months so that monthly rates stay the same. Our calendar is such that Monday/Friday students receive the same number of lessons per year as our Tuesday-Thursday students. For more information on flat-rate tuition, read here.

The first two months consist of a trial period.
During this trial period, prorated membership fees can be refunded at any time, any week, after any lesson.
After the trial period, membership fees cover the entire month and monthly fees are not refunded should you end lessons before the month's end.
There are no contracts or minimum membership requirements, membership continues on a month-to-month basis. The client must let the office know that they wish to stop lessons.

Studio Membership Payments

Monthly Membership payments
We use PayPal/Stripe the industry standard for safe online payments. Payments are drawn on the 25th of the month for the upcoming month. For newly-registered students, payments are made by credit card. After the student has been attending for a few months, we welcome our clients to set up a linked bank account

Electronic payments help keep our operating costs low. Unfortunately, teachers cannot accept payments at any time.

Absences and Makeup Lessons.

We assume that there may be a few days a year when you might have to miss lessons. Therefore, we add two free weeks of lessons to our yearly schedule. If you missed a lesson or two - these weeks cover two missed lessons per year. If you didn't miss any - they are 'freebies'.

If you know ahead of time that you will be absent, we can offer any open lesson slots within a two week period for you to reschedule.
Additionally, all missed lessons can be made up by video.
Instructions for video makeup lessons here

If a student will be absent, please send a courtesy email. text, or fill out our absence form on our home page so that we can let the teacher know.
When a teacher cancels we will either reschedule or (more likely) issue a credit to your account. If a member cancels, they lose the benefit of that time slot. Lessons canceled by students are not refunded and clients are not guaranteed an available time to reschedule but two free weeks are added to the school year to accommodate for the occasional absence.

Please remember that one-on-one instruction with an adult who is fully invested in your child's development is something rare in a young person's life. Please take the steps necessary to ensure that team sports and other events' schedules work around your one-on-one lesson time. If your schedule changes, talk with us and we will do what we can to accommodate the sudden change in your schedule.

Teacher Absence, Snow Days, School Closings
There are some days when we will need to close due to weather. If we can reschedule the entire missed day, we will. For example, if we close for snow on a Thursday in January, we might reschedule that day for a Thursday during our Spring Break. When local schools close for weather, we close as well. Our calendar is available on our website, please be aware of the days our school is closed. When we know ahead of time that a teacher will be out, we will try to reschedule or find an excellent substitute (often one of our other staff teachers). If we cannot find a substitute, we will contact you via text, email or both and issue a refund. When lessons are cancelled by us, a refund will show on your next invoice.

Rescheduling a lesson - short term
If you need to shift your lesson for a week or two, email us and we will let you know the times that are available. We will hold your original spot for up to two weeks. All verbal arrangements must be verified by email. Please do not ask your teacher to rearrange their schedule, please allow the office to make those adjustments.

Changing lesson time - long term
If you need to shift your lesson for three weeks or more, or will be taking an extended absence, email us. Your original spot may be filled, however, so please let us know if and when you would wish to switch back, we will do what we can to make it work.

Recitals
Recitals offer students an opportunity to perform for their families and peers. Recitals are short - about an hour - and very friendly. We know how challenging it is to schedule recitals so we offer several recital times to choose from. The weeks of full-school recitals are not a part of our yearly lessons schedule, so students who do not participate in recitals are not charged for those weeks. Recitals are offered at no charge to the family members attending.
